1991 Tulsa Drillers AA Texas League

The 1991 Tulsa Drillers finished the season with a record of 58-78, 28 games behind the Shreveport Captains. The poor records makes it hard to believe that the roster included 19 players who would go on to the Show including 19 year old future Hall of Famer, Ivan Rodriguez.

Robb Nen – was a 32nd round draft pick in 1987 who went on to appear in 3 Major League All Star games. He led the National League with 45 Saves in 2001 and his 314 career saves ranks 21st all time.

Barry Manuel – a second round draft pick out of Louisiana State, Manuel was called up to the parent club, Texas Rangers, in the late summer of the ’91 season and debuted on September 6 vs. the Chicago White Sox. He pitched 16 innings over 8 games in relief, finished 5 games, with an ERA of just 1.13 and a WHIP of .813. He picked up one victory that year, but never earned a save.

Jeff Frye – a 30th round draft pick, Frye hit .302 in the ’91 season with an Extra Base Hit rate north of 30% to earn himself a spot with the Rangers in ’92. He played 8 seasons in the Show and finished with 626 hits and an Extra Base Hit rate of 26%.
